"Raise 'Em and Praise Him - Testimony Tuesday"

Siobhan's Testimony

I prided myself on my faith. My family had a long tradition of service in their respective churches. My great great grandfather was a Baptist minister, who wrote a book of religious poems that are housed in the Library of Congress. My great grandfather, his son, was a deacon in his church and the director of the choir. My grandmothers prayed me up, which as the song "Somebody Prayed For Me" says, "I'm so glad they prayed for me."

My husband and I became entrenched in our church. We taught our children that God loved them and showed them how to pray nightly or anytime they needed Him. Slowly, my husband and I stopped listening to rap music and replaced it with gospel, jazz, and news from NPR. As our faith life deepened, we couldn't listen to songs about getting money and women through any means necessary. However, what I didn't realize was, I still had very little faith in God and it was about to tested.

"And Jesus said unto them, Because of your unbelief: for verily I say unto you, If ye have faith as a grain of mustard-seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place, and it shall remove, and nothing shall be impossible unto you." Matthew 17:20.

My husband was diagnosed with Hodgkins Lymphoma on Valentine's Day of 2013. Fortunately, the cancer was Stage 1A. However, he still had to undergo four months of chemotherapy and radiation treatments. During this time, I questioned God continuously, "Why us? Why now after we have done what you asked - tithe, serve others and deepen our faith walk?"

In October of 2013, I discovered a bald patch in the front center of my scalp. It was small enough to disguise with careful combing but could be exposed if it expanded. Shaking with fear of losing my glorious crown, I sought counsel from man to solve my problem.

The doctor I chose, unbeknownst to me, practiced medicine with a holistic approach. After diagnosing me with alopecia, his first question was, "On a scale of one to ten, what's your stress level?" I was immediately frustrated because I wanted a quick remedy for my hair loss - a pill or topical lotion - to solve my problem. His recommendation to me was to reduce my stress by meditating and clearing my too busy schedule.

"These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: be of cheer; I have overcome the world." John 16:33

After leaving the hair loss specialist, I felt I had hit rock bottom. I was determined to make some much-needed changes in my life. "Lord," I thought, "You have my complete attention." Years earlier, I had contracted shingles, which is a painful rash, caused by stress. It took several weeks to recover. Even months later, when I was stressed, I could still feel residual pain, like a sharp knife plunging into my chest. However, once I recovered, I resumed my frantic pace of life.

This time, I vowed to do things differently. Doing things my way had left me broken. I was finally ready to trust God and His purpose for my life. I was ready to be obedient. I asked God to help me to stop so I could hear his voice above all others.

Although I was grateful that He had brought my husband through his cancer treatments, I still questioned why this had happened to him and our family. Startling me from endless questioning, I heard God's voice answer, "Why not you? Why not now? If you believe and trust me, know that I will never leave nor forsake you." I instantly felt peace. I wasn't alone. I had my Father. This time I rededicated my life to God and committed to prayer.

"Trust in the Lord with all thine heart, and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all they ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct thy paths." Proverbs 3:5-6

Although the past three years have been filled with triumphs and challenges, I have remained true to my word and turned to prayer first in all things. My husband continues to have good health and remains cancer free. I no longer suffer from alopecia and my hair has grown back. We are grateful to God for his love, mercy, and grace. We're committed to helping others by sharing our story of allowing God to be the Leader in your life.

"Raise 'Em and Praise Him - Testimony Tuesday"

"Raise 'Em and Praise Him - Testimony Tuesday"

My name is Japonica Walker.  I have been married for over 30 years and have eight wonderful children.

Pretty much all of my adult life I have struggled with several health issues.  The Lord had been using these health problems as a platform to learn about His kingdom program for my life.  Many of those health issues were resolved by learning to apply the principles of self-care.

There were many areas in my life of self-disrespect and self-destruction.  Little did I know, my greatest health challenges would show up about five years ago.

My digestive system slowed to a point where a black lump developed in my low back.  I went to the imaging center for x-rays and decided to get a breast mammogram while I was there; trying to kill two birds with one stone.  Needless to say, the technicians panicked at what they saw on the mammogram and they completely lost sight of my concern with the lump in my back.

After another mammogram and a biopsy, the diagnosis was confirmed, Stage 1 DCIS.

I did seek the opinions of two oncologists, but I was also seeking God's perspective on the matter.  After my second oncologist consultation, I felt in my heart that God was telling me to go holistic and to trust him. He did not ask me to trust Him for healing, but to trust Him for quality of life. I didn't know what that meant at that moment, but I took baby steps to trust him with the big "C."

I started this journey about 3 1/2 years ago of walking thru breast cancer holistically.  The mass has diminished, the blood work looks good, and I have been experiencing my best quality of life during this "God opportunity".

It is so easy to say we trust God until there's a crisis.  I couldn't have done this on my own.  It was hearing a word from God that gave me what I needed to learn how to walk thru and overcome some of the fears of breast cancers.

"Raise 'Em and Praise Him - Testimony Tuesday"

Here is where YOU get to share your testimony.  My hope in promoting your testimony is that it strengthen your spiritual soul by sharing and that you encourage someone with your story.

Osborne E. Dennis Jr. author, and motivation speaker, also the writer of two books: "Christopher’s Visit to Heaven" and "Christopher Vs the Bully".

Dennis is a very powerful and prolific speaker; he identifies and relates to his audience immediately. His message is empowering the youth of today to: Speak Life and Show Love. However, this was not always Dennis's message.

He strayed away from the right path and played in the streets of Satan; it was there he was confronted with his own demons. He realized that as a born-again child of God. He knew he was denying his true calling. It was this horrific experience that gives him the unique ability to relate to his audience.

Dennis is a great inspiring, hopeful and motivational speaker. The moment he appears to his guest, he identifies the ones that are in need and hurting.

His advice is well received regardless of race creed or color. Why, because he speaks the simple truth with love and hope.  His speaking engagements have allotted him the privilege of sharing his message at several private schools, radio and television interviews.

His books are available at Amazon.com.

"Raise 'Em and Praise Him - Testimony Tuesday"

"Raise 'Em and Praise Him -
Testimony Tuesday"

Here is where YOU get to share your testimony.  My hope in promoting your testimony is that it strengthen your spiritual soul by sharing and that you encourage someone with your story.

"How Sunshine Became Jennifer"

In middle school, I was bullied for being fat, and awkward. The children in school would torment me with chants, “On your march, get set, Turkey neck!” I started leaving school and going to a local sub shop. I would go back to school and eat my lunch in the bathroom. I learned how to eat for comfort, and avoid social situations. No wonder, today, I suffer from emotional eating and social anxiety. Eventually, I realized that I did not have to continue skipping school; I learned that I could skip home life as well.

As a runaway at the age of 12, I was promiscuous with men three times my age. I would use marijuana, alcohol, and eventually ecstasy. As I lived on the street, I sold my body, time, and soul for the love that I did not have for myself, or receive from my dad. My dad was never in the picture, as he suffers from alcoholism, drug addiction, and a host of other difficulties. He felt that the best way to protect me from his demons was to avoid me. His avoidance of me made me think that something was “wrong” with me. My father’s rejection, coupled with the negative feedback I received from my peers caused me to believe that I had little value, was unacceptable, and had to work for approval.

About the age of 16, I went to JobCorps. I believed the lie that I was bisexual. I did not believe much in myself; hence my difficulty in finishing things. I left JobCorps once I earned my GED. I came home, only to run away again and be in a homosexual relationship for four years. My mother listened to me describe some of the mental and emotional symptoms that I was experiencing and took me to a professional where I was diagnosed with Bipolar Disorder. I refused to believe that I had this disorder and continued to self-medicate, engage in criminal activity, and be promiscuous with whoever would have me.

At the age of 21, I began exotic dancing. I was introduced to cocaine at the age of 22. I was convicted that same year. During my prison sentence, something changed. I slowly realized that my name was not Sunshine, it was Jennifer. I began to understand that if I did not forfeit death to experience life, my jail cell would be my new home for life or the mental ward.

I was released from prison, March 25, 2009. Since then I have obtained my AA Degree in Human Services. I enter into Howard County Detention Center on a biweekly basis to minister to the women there; I facilitate the Celebrate Recovery program. With new confidence, I manage a blog where I let my pain give God glory. I am a wife to an awesome husband. Our marriage was not a walk in the park. We have been married for six years but separated for three and a half years. Today, my husband and I are committed to making the marriage work. My husband and our five-year-old are growing in love together.

I have worked as a Case Worker for the past year with people with similar difficulties as I. Prior to that I was an Administrative Assistant at a homeless shelter. Currently, I am working on my Bachelor’s degree in Social Work and Psychology. I am learning to parent my son who is Autistic. God is my Redeemer, Healer, Keeper, and Way Maker. Due to my submission to God’s love and power, my life has never been the same.

I have been delivered from low self-esteem, people pleasing, drug addiction, cigarette addiction, homosexuality, lust, self-hatred, bitterness, self-loathing, approval addiction, and procrastination.

Please follow me on anecessarypainblog.wordpress.com as I make God smile by releasing my pain to benefit those who are hurting. Ultimately, my life goal is to bring the unsaved to Jesus Christ.
